CONDUITS represented on EU ITS Urban Expert Group
The EU’s Urban ITS Expert Group has been established to assist the EC in the implementation of Action 6.4 of the ITS Action Plan, which is to promote urban ITS, provide guidance and technical support, and of Action 20 of the Action Plan on Urban Mobility. The group of 25 experts is managed by DG MOVE of the European Commission in coordination with two other European Commission Directorates: DG RTD and DG INFSO. Of the 25 members, 14 are representing a transport authority (local or regional) and two more are working on behalf of local authorities. CONDUITS is also a member of this group through the coordinator, Maurizio Tomassini (ISIS).
The first meeting of the group took place in Brussels on 8 December under the chairmanship of Jean Eric Paquet , Acting Director Trans-European Transport Networks & Smart Transport in DG MOVE, who opened the meeting by setting out the Europeanpolicy context. During the meeting, the terms of references and the expected outputs were discussed. The exchange of best practices and guidelines for the key applications of Urban ITS. The key application areas selected by the European Commission are travel and traffic information, smart ticketing, traffic and access (demand) management and urban logistics.
The group will meet three times in 2011 and in 2012, with the mandate ending in November 2012. Each meeting will focus on one of the key applications. The next meetings will be held on 9 March in Brussels and then on 8 June in Lyon. The next ITS Conference organised by DG MOVE will be held on 6 June in Lyon.
